At the crossroad

Recently, it seems like I am reaching a crossroad whereby I really think seriously about "What do I want?" "What's Next" - It seems like to be my Post-LP Syndrome.

The more I reflect and the more I see what's happening around me, the more I am persuaded that I am at a crossroad and I am committed to create trust in myself, and to move on - I realize there are a lot to be done.

In the next five days, I am committed to be focus, to trust myself and to create a lot of fun - it's no more at the crossroad but rather make a choice to move on - that's my life.

GRE Preparation

Three months back, I determined myself to have my GRE in three months time and therefore, here I am! I will be sitting my GRE tomorrow, 8th December 2009, 13:30 (SG Time) @ Informatics Campus Prometric Centre at Science Centre Road.

To have preparation for GRE and working at the same time in three months time seems to be intense. For instance, within 5 mock test that I have taken, I maintain my Quantitative score at 620 - 650/800, whereby my verbal at 280 - 350/800 (which is a bit worrying, 200 is the lowest mark).

I found that I have no much problems for Quantitative portion, but have great troubles in memorizing all the 800 essential words for GRE (note: 800 words from BARRON's, there could be more out there if I were to study more books). And I did not realize that my vocabulary for English is so insufficient until I registered myself for GRE.

So, tomorrow is the day. It's 17:20, 7th December 2009 SG Time now. I will be sitting for exam in another 20 hours time and by this time tomorrow, I am nearly to know my scores! I will be using the next 3 hours to enhance my verbal and 3 hours to revise all topics and take good rest before I am going to exam tomorrow!

So, wish me luck!

清晨的大雨，爸爸的工作。。。

清晨6点钟左右，外面下起倾盆大雨。我赶紧起身把窗口关好，看见父亲正准备出门派报纸。

我最讨厌清早的大雨，因为这将会使到父亲的工作更加辛苦。下雨天，除了要保护好报纸，不让它们被淋湿，骑单车也极为不方便；在狂风暴雨中行驶，加上那重重的报纸，还有那个繁忙的道路。。。再者，加上一些刁蛮的顾客的不断拨电话催报纸。。。（有时候，不晓得这些人是怎么想的，下雨天就不能体谅一下吗？当你在享受的同时，不要剥夺了别人自我保护与生存的权利。）

爸爸的工作是一年365天，没有休假，没有周休；除了农历新年和特定的公共假期没有出版报纸之外（马来西亚华文报业一年休假8天）。他也没有好好的享受过假期。有时候，还得面对困难的客户。

爸爸就是靠着这样的工作，养活我们一家人，还让我和哥哥可以受高升的教育。这就是我们家人的生济。

看着他骑着单车在雨中的背影，我的心中是无限感激。。。

终于，我在5月毕业了！

过去两年来的日夜辛劳：
白天上班，晚上赶功课；
周日工作，周末上课。。。
这样的日子终于过去了！

回想当年，有幸被录取工艺大学工艺科技管理硕士学位时，兴奋不已！
曾经犹豫了许久，最终，为了不让自己后悔，还是走下去了。

间中，也曾经多次因为沉重的工作与功课压力想要放弃过；
但是，在家人、朋友、同事们的鼓励下，我终于克服了困难！

我也不得不感谢我的良师益友Dr. Othman，
他在我的研究上给了很大的帮助与鼓励。

还有我的宝贝Alice，
在我赶论文的最后两个月，
陪我一起熬夜。

更要感谢父母与家人的鼓励。
我感谢他们的鼓励，让我走向成功。

未来的路，还是很艰辛，
只有以持之以恒的态度，坚信不疑的信念继续努力，
必定能克服种种的困难的。。。 :)

I was finally graduated from my M.Sc in May from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia!

It was a hard time to go through, in which I have to work during day time and have to rush for assignments and projects during night time; as well as working during weekdays and attending full day classes during weekends. And thanks God, it's over finally!

Recalling the time I was admitted to UTM two years back, I was very happy when the result was out. However, it took me some time to make up my mind and I had finally accepted the offer.

Due to stresses from both working and studies, I had the thought of giving up for few times during my study. However, the courages from my family, friends and colleagues had finally enable me to conquer the difficulties and moved forward.

I would like to extend my appreciation to my supervisor, Dr. Othman, for his help and assistance in my Master project and thesis. He had helped me a lot on that.

I would like to thanks my parents and family members for their courages.

I would also like to thanks my honey, Alice, as she had been accompanying me till late night during the time I was rushing for my thesis, almost every night.

I extend my appreciation to all the above for their courages and understanding, which enables me to move towards success.

Although it might not be a smooth road ahead, with great determinations and beliefs, I am confident that I'll still able to face the challenges ahead me. :)

I was supposed to write something during the new year day but was busy then. Therefore, I would just take the opportunity to write during this Chinese New Year time. :)

There were lots of joys and tears in the year 2008, and yet 2009 will be a year full of challengers, and there are many targets to be met this year. It's full of uncertainty due to economic downturn.

I would like to greet all my friends a very Happy Chinese New Year, and may the year of Ox brings to you fortune and luck. :)

Conversation with Taxi driver

As usual, I am in the cab heading towards Keppel Shipyard at Pioneer Sector 1. The conversation begins with the recent credit crisis issues. The driver and I were on the topic and the driver commented that youngsters nowadays are wasting a lot of money. Right then, I commented that youngsters nowadays have been taking things as granted. For example, they do not even face the world without mobile phone, the days with 56K dial up for internet connection, the days with fans only but not air-cons.

However, I get such reply:" No no no... they are not taking things as granted. It's our human civilisation. We should move forward... and they are not taking things as granted..."

Well, sounds like, this driver has his points. However, after thinking twice, I smiled to myself... I have my answer on this. (How about you?)

I can't compromise with it

Recently, it's obviously that a drop in the standard of whatever things I am doing. After struggling for some time, I have decided that I can't compromise with the standard-relevant issue. I am going to do something with regards to it.

Next month, I will have critical milestones to meet. My thesis phase 1 will be dued that time and a presentation will be carried out. If I am not going to do something on that, I am sure I will regret on it.

I have had lunch with colleagues at Jalan Membina food court this afternoon (my favourite XO fish soup!!!), and the time we passed by a shop, we spoted this funny notice. =p

Just to translate, it says 'Love' is available here, where by 'Love' and 'Ice' have had similar pronounciation in mandarin.

Project at Shipyard

I have the luck to attend to a project which is carried out at a famous shipyard at the West.

Indeed, I felt quite excited when I first went to the place. It's time for me to have a look on how's shipyard is like!!!

The safety requirements of this shipyard is strict. This is to convey to the safety guidelines provided by the Ministry of Manpower and other departments in the shipyard compound.

There are a lot of workers in the shipyard compound. It's noted that bicycle is one of the common transport for the workers travelling around the shipyard compound. The workers all looked strong and fit.

The office hour is 7:30am till 4:30pm and the lunch time for executive is at 11:30am. You would see the workers start queuing at the entrance of the canteen from 11:50am. When the clock strikes at 12:00 noon, they all ran in the canteen rushing for their lunch (as if they have had long time never taken their lunch. :) ) By the way, the workers could really eat a lot! I am amazing by the amount of food they are taking. The price of the food in the canteen is really at fair low price. The economic rice selling at $2 (for 2 vege and 1 meat, note that the rice and the dishes are served at bigger set than outside). The chicken rice is sold at $2 as well, etc etc.. After the lunch, you would see the workers getting small rest at their locker places or along the walkway. I suppose their job should be very tiring and tough.

It's really great to have a look on how shipyard's life is...

In another 3 hours time, we will be celebrating our nation 51st Independence Day (Hari Kemerdekaan).

No matter what, wish the nation continues to grow and prospel. Hopefully the political crisis and unstability will be over soon. I truly hope that both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat MPs and ADUNs would take the people's needs in the first place. The inflation rate as of August has had the new height at 8.5%, the government would have to do something on this.

Let's face all the difficulties and work hard together for the sake of the people and nation.

Visiting to Comex 2008 (29Aug2008)

I have gone to Comex 2008 on 29th August 2008 at Suntec City after work, together with my colleague, Anthony Khoo.

We left KOM at around 5:55pm and reached Suntec City at around 7:00pm. We noticed a huge crowds at the City Hall MRT station, whereby the SMRT staff had to make an announcement "The station is crowded, if you are not taking the train, please leave the station..."

At the underpass going towards Suntec, it was huge human-traffic and at the end, we ended up going through the zebra-crossing through the road instead.

At Comex exhibition, Singtel itself has had a ballroom. There were a long queue signing up packages at Singtel booth. (I was wondering they were signing up for a mobile package, internet service package, or for a 3G IPhone). I noticed that there was no any offer or special price for signing up for a 3G IPhone as per Singtel current package due to the Comex.

Sony had a area of booth with stage carrying out "Sony Expo" as well, whereby there are models dancing and performing to promote Sony's products.

At level 3, there was Starhub booth, whereby the crowd is notably lesser than that of Singtel. Anthony and I have made some comparison on the same price of the phone of both Singtel and Starhub and both of us think that Starhub sold them much higher and that the packages provided are not competitive enough to that of Singtel's.

There are lot of different models of laptops in the Comex. However, it's the matter of which brand and model is more suitable for the consumer usage, as well as the comfortability of the usage.

We have had made a visit to Lenovo booth, where we met Yeo KH and Cindy there. (Hmm... it was indeed of the same thinking to compare Lenovo laptop price huh??? hahaha.) I was thinking to compare the price of my current X61 laptop, which i had bought in the early May. It was sold at S$3100 ++ at the Lenovo booth. Comparing the specification, I did not find much difference with the one I have had previously (@$2600 before GST, bought from the company, with a freebie of 8GB IPod touch), only that the hard disk space I have is of 160GB and the one at the exhibition is 250B, the L2 cache of mine is of 4MB whereby the one at the Comex is 8MB.

However, by comparing as such, I feel that the value of the X61 still remained around the same after 3 months. (Am I right? I am not sure, please comment. haha)

Suntec Expo

Visit to the new JB Public Library

On Sunday, 24th August 2008, I have visited the newly-opened public library (Perbandanan Perpustakaan Johor) in which it's located near to the Convent Girl School and the Inner-Ring Road.

The library area is quite big. However, the parking lots available is not sufficient. There is a cafeteria at the ground floor, as well as a kids corner at the same floor.

The first floor is where the books are located. There is a teens corner at the same floor, as well as reference corner. Indeed, the varieties of the books are quite less and insufficient.

In summary, the infrastructure of the building is not bad, however, the books varieties are insufficient. Nevertheless, it's good that it provides a place for students and teenagers to hang around with.

It's regretted that I did not take any photo of the library.

Accident in front of my house.

It was 17th August 2008, around 12:00noon whereby my whole family was ready to attend the wedding of my cousin's daughter, whom my cousin sister was adopted and given to a Malay by my uncle and auntie when she was a baby due to financial problem. It was the day where the Indonesia embassy celebrating their Independence Day, in which the ambassador live just near to my house and there were lot of cars parked outside my house.

The time I wanted to drive off, there was a car coming from the opposite direction. I kept aside to give way to it. Meanwhile, there was a Wira coming from the back and it stopped just close to my car. At such, there was a car which was parked in front of me and this Wira at my back and I was not able to move. At this time, the Wira's driver moved the car and it just knocked behind of my car.

We whole family alighted the car and to talk to the driver. Some of the neighbors joining us as well. The driver and his girl friend was talking so loud to us and refused to compensate to me initially and said they would rather lodge police report. After some time, only then they agreed to compensate with an amount and the case is settled. After the case, my parents said initially they would accept a lower amount however due to the impolite way they talked, it would not be possible for us to accept that amount.

Bad day

It was a rainy day on Friday (22nd Aug 2008). When time hits 5:30pm, I just packed and left office. As usual, I would rush for 6pm train from Tanjung Pagar Railway Station heading home during rush Friday evening.

However, everything was not smooth as usual. I missed the MRT towards Pasir Ris and had to wait for around 7 minutes for the next train. When i reached Tanjung Pagar, it was 5:45pm. I ran to the taxi queue right at the Amara Hotel. A City Cab taxi came into the taxi stand. And I told the driver I wanted to go to Railway Station, whereby he refused to pick me. I waited for around 5 minutes more until I saw a bus approached to the bus stop and I boarded it. The time I reached Railway Station, it was 6pm!

I would have had just in time, if I were able to board the City Cab.

There are certain things I would like to highlight:

First of all, I try not to avoid you. However, from time to time, you made me feel irritating. This is my first time facing a girl treating a guy like this. Please be considerate on your talking and concern about others feeling.

I have tried to treat you well. But indeed, I do feel that you are irritating. At the end, I tried to block you in MSN, ignoring all your messaging. The time I unblock you, the texting from you made me feel irritating again. And therefore, again, I block you.

I just can't say anything. I do feel very uneasy on what you are doing. That's all. :)

Oh Eunos~~~ I love Tiong Bahru

It's rather a surprised e-mail which announced the company long-awaited shifting location. It's going to move to Techlink in Eunos!!! Oh my god! It's rather a damn far for me! Just a quick facts: from Kranji to Eunos MRT station will take 53 minutes. From Eunos, I will need to transfer a bus which will be 5 stops to the new office location. I estimated it will take me one and half hour to two hour (after reaching Singapore, including bus and MRT waiting time) to reach office. Plus the normal jam at the checkpoint, after the moving, I will need 3 hours traveling time (in one way) and that's 6 hours traveling time per day!!!

Oh my God! That's indeed terrible. Luckily we are mostly at client's place. By the way, I will miss the current office in Tiong Bahru, a super convenient office lot which is just above MRT station, with all types of convenient shops, fast foods and nice hawker nearby. I love Tiong Bahru!!! hahaha... =p

Beijing Olympics 2008

Well done, Lee Chong Wei!!! He has had made the way towards to the badminton final! That's great! All the best on the final on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, just to recap on the Olympics 2008. The opening ceremony on the 8th August 2008 is really great. It's widely commented as the costliest opening ceremony, where it's indeed, great! Well done, Beijing!

Train Services~~~

Recently, the condition at Woodlands Departure and Arrival Hall is just a messed. Sigh... Hopefully the situation could be better soon... :)

However, I'd learn about taking train to and fro to work between Johor Bahru and Singapore through a friend recently and I enjoy taking it back from work very much!!! The cost of taking train from JB to Singapore (Tanjong Pagar) would be RM2.90, whereby travelers could choose to exit from Woodlands Train Checkpoint after the checkpoint clearance (and take bus to the nearest MRT station from there, however the cost might not be that justifiable as it would normally cost you RM0.90 to take a bus from JB to Kranji MRT station.) or alternatively, board the train again towards Tanjong Pagar.

During back home, there are 2 trains services which will depart at 18:00 and 19:10 respectively. There is another train service which will depart at 21:00 but I am not sure the detail of that. The cost of these services are different (due to the different class of the train). The 18:00 train costs much higher (@ S$6.00 from Tanjong Pagar to JB) whereby 17:10 train costs much cheaper (@ S$3.00 from Tanjong Pagar to JB). Note that for 17:10 the S$3.00 ticket is free seating, which means if there is a seat you may sit it but if it's booked by others you will have to let that person to have the seat. If you would want to have a confirmed seating, it will cost you @ S$5.00.

One good thing about the KTM train service is that you won't have to be squeezed like sardine at the Woodlands Arrival & Departure Hall if you travel by bus.

Master Project 1 Proposal

Finally, it's my final year of my part-time Master study. It comes to the Master project time!!!

On 21st July 2008, I have submitted my final project proposal. Initially, I was quite confident in doing Information Strategy Planning (ISP), but after struggling for some time, I decided to do a research indeed.

Well, the research area is ERP-related. Expecting what's the topic? Wait for my journals and thesis to be published this time next year!!! hahaha... :):):)

Day outing with S&I Colleagues (12July2008)

It's a nice Saturday afternoon. Anthony, Pei Wen, Lynn, Jeremy, Jennifer, Victor, Soon Keong and I have had an outing around Johor Bahru.

Around 2pm, I have arrived City Square and turned up to Neway Karaoke by around 2:15pm.

Due to heavy crowd at Woodlands checkpoint, Anthony, Pei Wen, Soon Keong and Victor were only manage to join us some time later.

We have had a nice singing section.

The session ended at 5:15pm, whereby all of us felt that the 3 hours time were rather short and insufficient and the cost was not justified (should boycott Neway next time). And right after that, we were heading towards Sri Alam for a seafood dinner.

(**The car park fare at City Square is really very damn expensive, I have parked my car from 2:00pm till 5:30pm, and it costs me RM8.00!!!)

There is no secret recipe - lesson learnt from Kungfu Panda

On the 20th June 2008, I have gone to a Movie, Kunfu Panda, with a ex-colleague from Mewah at Jurong Entertainment center.

I am not going to talk about the details of the movie right here but just to jot down on the important lesson learnt from it.

Po, the dragon warrior, felt upset when he found the script of the dragon warrior was just a blank when he was about to defend everyone from Tai Lung. Feeling sad, he went back home and only to realize the truth of it from his father, when his father told him "there is no secret recipe..." for his noodle business.

In our daily life, we may hope to get some "secret recipe" of success, or getting rich, or being a good manager, an attractive lady, etc...

However, there is no secret recipe! Everything is just our own efforts!

Political drama

Recently, reading newspapers would be a nightmare whereby lots of political drama were on show. From the Mongolian Model murder case to the sodomy case of Anwar Ibrahim, up to the Statutory Declaration made by P.Balasubamariam and the missing of him.

Don't we have much more issues to be taken care of? It seems like some politicians cared about their own business more than the benefits of the people of the nation.

With the recent fuel price hike up to US$148 per barrel, as well as the shortage of food and the price hike of the food. It seems like we are getting more and more difficult days ahead.

Enough is enough. I hope that both Barisan and Pakatan to stop the dirty political drama. Please care about the people's needs!

Internet Service Provider

I am fed up of the ISP TMNET Streamyx. It always gives me bad and unstable connection. Speculations on the bad connectivity linkage with the nation's unstable political situation was made widely among the netizens.

I really hope that something could be sorted out. I am looking forward for a better service provider. Hopefully, DIGI Broadband which would be commenced next month would help to solve this problem.

As per my previous posting, good service with good price is important to me. :)

Digi 1 plan

After struggling for some time, I have finally switched my Digi Postpaid plan from the old "Optimum" plan to the new "Digi 1 Plan" :)

With the new plan, the voice call charges will be at RM0.13/min, compared with RM0.30/min of the Optimum plan + RM20/month registration fee. For smses, the charges are same for both plan. The only condition of 1 plan will be that, the minimum usage (or I should say the minimum payment made) must be RM50 where I feel that it's still fair enough.

During this high inflation time, the lower the charges and good services will be appreciated. I appreciate services from Digi a lot, in which I always found that their services are good and friendly. :)

Pasir Gudang business trip - 4July2008

It's the fourth time I visited a customer premise at Pasir Gudang since I joined S&I.

As dad and mum were in their rush to go Masai for the prayer session for grandma's first seventh day after her demise, aunt fetched me to the Jalan Tebrau bus stop to wait for the transport.

The traffic condition of the only highway towards one of the largest industrial park of the state of Johor is really not in good condition the time during the peak evening hour when we back.

It'd been 10 years since the government proposed the new alternative Pasir Gudang highway. I wondered why this bad traffic condition could take place to an important highway in which it leads towards the industrial park, as well as the Johor's largest port.
